Founded in 1977, Skaza started as a small garage operation, but from the very beginning, it was a story of innovation and pioneering spirit. Founders Franc and Martina Skaza, at a time when sourcing materials in Yugoslavia was a challenge, saw an opportunity in recycling old household appliances. From these, they extracted plastic parts, which were then processed into new products – a revolutionary approach at the time. This creative mindset has led Skaza on a path to becoming a high-tech company recognized for its innovation, evidenced by the Golden Gazelle Award in 2014.
A Global Player Betting on Sustainable Business
Today, Skaza is an important part of the electrical and furniture industries, a global player present in over 56 markets worldwide, implementing the sustainable aspect of production using recycled materials. Last year, they achieved a 21% absolute share of recycled materials from the 5,000 tons of plastic procured, confirming their commitment to plastic reuse.
The recently revitalized Skaza brand appeals to modern consumers who value sustainability and responsible choices. With fresh colors, innovative solutions, and products made from bio-based and recycled plastics, Skaza brings a new breeze to homes and gardens. This product expansion is not merely an aesthetic renovation but a decisive step toward reducing the carbon footprint and responsible business practices.
"Our strategy for sustainable materials includes efficient production processes that lower costs and prevent waste. This ensures our products remain affordable while aligning with our sustainability vision," says Niko Medved, Skaza's deputy director.
"Our goal is to create a broad portfolio of our own brands that will represent a larger share of our total business revenue structure. With this, we aim not only to increase sales but also to translate our industrial expertise into products that meet market needs," explains Medved.
Skaza is addressing its consumers at a time when the need to reuse plastic must captivate the entire world if we are to preserve the only planet where we fulfill our dreams. The increasing production of plastic products has long exceeded the world’s ability to manage it effectively. According to National Geographic, half of all plastic has been produced in the past 20 years, with production rising exponentially from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to an astounding 448 million tons in 2015, and it is expected to double by 2050.
Single-use plastic can be almost entirely eliminated, especially with Skaza’s solutions like the VIVA 2 collection, which brings a fresh breeze to everyday tableware with its vibrant colors. The entire VIVA line offers a perfect alternative to single-use plastics, as it is made from bio-based material derived from sugarcane," adds Medved.
The VIVA line offers a wide range of products that bring a touch of modern elegance and sustainability to your table. Whether you’re hosting a dinner with friends, enjoying a family meal, or having a picnic outdoors, VIVA’s sleek design and functionality make it an essential addition to any home. The bio-based products ensure that you not only serve in style but also care for the environment with an eco-friendly solution.
"The revitalization of the brand will impact our competitiveness by offering products that are not only sustainable but also long-lasting and functional. Our advantage will lie in providing optimal quality at affordable prices," explains Medved.
For those who desire a touch of luxury and elegance, the CONTESSA collection is the pinnacle of refined dining. This line includes larger cups, luxurious serving bowls, and beautifully designed salad bowls. CONTESSA boasts a robust design and sophisticated aesthetic, making it ideal for formal events or moments when you want to elevate your dining experience. Each piece in this collection is not only functional but also aesthetically refined, ensuring that your dining space always looks impeccable. CONTESSA is made from sustainable, bio-based materials.
The PICK&GO collection is designed for outdoor meal lovers who want to maintain style and sustainability. It includes convenient picnic sets and food storage containers, perfect for nature adventures, family picnics, or a day at the beach. PICK&GO products are lightweight and durable, allowing for easy transport and versatile use. Additionally, they are made from environmentally friendly, bio-based materials, ensuring you enjoy your meals with a sense of environmental responsibility.
Hiking Slabs Made from 100% Recycled Milling Waste
Skaza has transformed milling waste, a by-product of its production, into sustainable hiking slabs that are ideal for terraces, courtyards, playgrounds, and parking lots. These slabs are 100% recycled, combining an innovative solution with a focus on sustainability. "We plan to launch our own brand through a full spectrum of marketing channels, including e-commerce platforms, department stores, and the B2B segment. This will enable wide reach for our products and increase the visibility of our sustainability focus," adds Medved.
Lightweight yet robust, these slabs provide a stable and secure foundation, and are easy to carry and assemble. A set of eight slabs covers 0.5 m², making them an excellent choice for those seeking both functionality and sustainability in one product.
Cheer for the World – Protect the Environment!
Sports unite people, so we have combined volleyball passion with our vision of a sustainable future. In a year when more than 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide, we launched the #BlockTheBag – Pass the Organko! campaign, promoting the transition to the Organko Daily – the most awarded bin for collecting organic waste of the year.
With this innovative solution, a recipient of the Red Dot and Big See awards and a finalist for the European Recycling Plastic Awards, we are fighting against plastic in organic waste. In collaboration with the Slovenian men's volleyball team, we have combined sports passion with our environmental mission: eliminating plastic bags from brown bins that contaminate compost, pollute the soil, and our food. The Organko Daily, made from 100% recycled material, ensures cleaner compost and prevents plastic from entering the soil.
Support our campaign, become an environmental hero, "block" plastic bags, and choose Organko Daily for a more sustainable future. Every step counts – act now for a cleaner world!
