Carbon footprint of Plastika Skaza

Greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), generally stemming from the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and livestock farming, contribute to the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming. This has adverse effects on the natural environment, human health, and well-being, and may potentially cause catastrophic global environmental changes.1

In line with the Paris Agreement, whose primary objective is to limit global warming to safe levels (meaning the average global temperature should not increase by more than 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels), we must halve GHG emissions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.2

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by revenue is a measure that indicates the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced per one million EUR. It provides insights into the environmental efficiency of a business or industry by assessing the emissions associated with the generation of income. With the growth of the company and revenues, it is expected that the carbon footprint will also increase. However, it is crucial to optimize processes and take measures to limit GHG emission intensity.

The table below shows net sales revenue, total emissions of scopes 1 and 2, and GHG emission intensity for the years 2019-2022. In 2022, the emission intensity increased by 28% compared to the base year due to challenges in procuring electricity from renewable sources (bankruptcy of our supplier).

Carbon Intensity based on Revenue for Plastika Skaza.

To contribute to reducing GHG emissions, Plastika Skaza has set a goal to decrease the intensity of scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025 compared to the base year 2019.

To achieve this goal, we have developed a strategy for reducing GHG emissions by 2025, including activities such as:

  • reducing fossil fuel consumption,
  • process optimization, digitalization,
  • improving energy efficiency,
  • installing a solar power plant, and
  • using energy from renewable sources.
