What is bokashi bran (biogen)?
Bokashi bran contains beneficial microorganisms and is a key ingredient during bokashi composting, since it acts as a composting accelerator.
These effective microorganisms from the bokashi bran prevent rotting - instead, your waste starts to ferment. While traditional composting takes 3 to 6 months, bokashi composting is done in half the time.
Turn food waste into new resources
Use food scraps as gold for your garden! Bokashi composting produces two valuable side products: nutrient-rich compost for your garden and a "liquid gold" fertilizer made from fermented liquid byproducts.
Bokashi, an efficient Japanese method
Instead of traditional outdoor composting, the Japanese Bokashi method uses a special bran with microorganisms to ferment your scraps. This process creates nutrient-rich compost for your garden in just weeks, all while keeping things odor-free.
Bokashi vs. Tradition
Compared to traditional composting piles, fermented bokashi mass breaks down much faster once added to soil. This is because the fermentation process has already partially broken down the organic materials, making them easier for soil microbes to further decompose.
Nutrients for your garden
Bokashi method prevents food rotting and ensures nutrient-rich compost base. Effective microorganisms break down complex organic materials in food scraps into simpler forms that plants can readily absorb. This translates to a boost in essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, all crucial for healthy plant growth.Liquid gold for plants
Bokashi liquid is a quite concentrated rich fertilizer and needs to be diluted before using it on your plants. The recommended dilution ratio typically varies between 1:200, depending on the intended use.
Odor-free kitchen
Bokashi fermentation happens in an airtight container, effectively trapping odors. Additionally, the fermentation process itself breaks down odorous compounds, resulting in a less pungent final product when incorporated into the soil.Fermentation over rot
Fermentation surpasses rotting by preserving nutrients, eliminating odors, and boosting microbial activity. It transforms organic waste swiftly and cleanly, enriching compost with beneficial microbes and reducing environmental impact compared to traditional methods.
