Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irena Pulko, PhD, Faculty of Polymer Techonology

She graduated in Chemistry (2004) from the University of Maribor and subsequently completed her PhD on porous polymers, graduating in 2009 and she is currently a Vice-Dean for Education at FTPO. Her research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of polymers, mainly polymers prepared from high internal phase emulsions, biopolymers and biopolymer composites. She was the project leader of the project Creative Core. The main objective of the project was to obtain a critical mass of knowledge in the field of biopolymers. For this purpose, collaboration was established with foreign research institutions and companies as potential end users. She was the organizer of the international conference titled Biopolymer Materials and Engineering (BiMatE, http://www.bimate.si/) in 2015. She was involved in various research projects namely European FP7 SME 2008-2 project HIP (Development of low cost, lightweight, highly insulating polymers for refrigerated transport, heating and cooling installations), PolyRegion and PolyRegion-Pro Act project, etc.

Bioplastic classification

By their definition, polymers consist of a large number of repeating units. However, after adding certain supplements, they are no longer called polymers, but polymeric materials (plastic), which can be processed by various methods and are suitable for numerous products. In this blog, check out the...
